Longueuil police aiming to hire more non-white officers

MONTREAL -- In a push to be more diverse, the Longueuil Police Service wants to recruit more officers from minority communities, a strategy that the police chief hopes will also build trust among youth. "We always have to try to build some bridges between us and the youth, sometimes [there is] a lack of trust. So it's our responsibility as a police department to be able to get closer and closer to the community," police chief Fady Dagher said in an interview with CTV Montreal. PAR LIGUE DES NOIRS DU QUÉBEC, FÉVRIER 2, 2021 Le fait qu’un avocat ait récemment été victime de profilage racial n’est que la partie visible de l’iceberg. Il y a eu d’autres victimes de profilage racial depuis la nouvelle politique d’interpellation du Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM). Cette politique n’était qu’une façade et une insulte à l’intelligence des citoyens et des élus. En 2020, la Ligue des Noirs du Québec et plusieurs élus ont été contraints de contester publiquement le contenu déficient de la nouvelle politique d’arrestation policière du SPVM. La problématique demeure en 2021.
